Paula Meehan

Paula Meehan is prescribed for the 2027 Leaving Cert English exam. She is one of Ireland’s most important contemporary poets, writing about Dublin working-class life, the body, memory, mythology, and social justice. Her poetry insists on bearing witness to lives that are often overlooked. Examiners reward students who can discuss how her sensory, grounded language creates political and emotional power.
